Yamo

Yamo is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. Simple menu. Affordable prices. Great food. It is located in a tiny space, but punches above it's weight in every possible way.

It is located just around the corner from Mission and 18th Street in the Mission district. The space is laid out shotgun style with a counter that has 8 to 10 seats.

Yamo serves Burmese food, but according to the owner Kai Chang, but there are also Chinese dishes on the menu as well.

What I love the most about Yamo is the experience. It's operation leans into what matters, making great food, and gets rid of everything that increases complexity or raises prices. For example, they only take cash. So when you go, make sure you have some cash on you. Although, there is a store next door that has an ATM in case you need it.

Accepting cash is how they can keep prices low. They don't have to absorb credit card fees. They don't have hourly staff. They don't use mobile ordering apps.

There are no computers. There are no payment terminals. It's like stepping into the best version of a previous era.

I highly suggest you make a trip over to Yamo and check it out. You can thank me later.
